The Cost of Clinical Trials
Time and Money
Clinical trials are typically only available at a limited number of specific locations, usually larger research hospitals located in larger cities. Unless negotiated separately with the sponsor, the cost of travel and expenses are paid for by the patient entering the trial. The costs could be in excess of several thousands of dollars per visit. You need to estimate your cost burden prior to entering a trial to determine your ability to pay. You should also request from the sponsor assistance to lessen your costs.
Also consider the time and travel burden. If the clinical trial requires long distance travel, you may be looking at several days per visit. You need to factor this into your decision to enter a clinical trial.
Finally, check with your insurance company to see if your coverage will reimburse you for any costs.
